It seems that in 1197 Rubbiano became autonomous but the abbey of Frassinoro had jurisdiction on the zone, for long so much to invest the ducal family of Este. It is one of the most important example of Romanesque architecture in the area of Modena. It presents a basilican basement with nave and two aisles. The apsis are very fine. In the inside, one can see IXth century columns with neo-Corinthian and leaf-shaped capitals. At the entrance there is a XIIth century stoup in marble by the master Metope, who worked also in the cathedral of Modena. Next to the parish church there is the bell tower.
