Sestola / DISCOVER THE AREA / ART AND CULTURE / chapels, oratories, tabernacles

  • The oratory is located in a suggesting isolated place, on the village of Castellaro on the ruins of the castle of Querciolo. Santi says that the oratory must have been built earlier than 1686 because from 1686 to 1712 it was reconstructed. Now it is more similar to a church than to an oratory. The rose-window is on a portal with a moulding gable and a squarer bell tower has a spire. The front is all white except the gable. All the rest is made of stone. It is well kept, including the covering made of sandstone. Inside there is a fresco dating back to the XVI cent. by an emilian artist "Virgin with the Child" and various paintings.
