  • Don Luigi Pellegrini Provincial Ethnographical Museum

  • Among the most important collections of cultural material in Italy, the museum is housed within 14 historic rooms of the Hospice of Saint Pellegrino, a former refuge for travellers crossing the Apennines between Emilia and Tuscany, along the Via Romea or Via Bibulca and the eighteenth century Via Vandelli. The museum was founded by Don Luigi Pellegrini, a local priest who collected the more than 4,000 items on display, salvaged over a period of fifteen years of searching in houses, stables and the workshops of local craftsmen in the villages of the Frignano and Garfagnana and the mountains of Reggio Emilia. In 1987, the collection was donated to the Provincial Administration of Lucca and provides precious documentation recording the everyday life of the people of the Apennines between the first half of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century.
