The largest high altitude peat bog in the region of Emilia Romagna. It is situated at a height of 1307 metres above sea level on a splendid plateau along the mountain ridge which separates the Ospitale valley from the Dardagna valley. It is a lake of tectonic origins, long in shape, with a perimetre of 1,500 metres and a maximum depth of 2 metres. It has the typical appearance of a marsh, surrounded by grassland and beech trees. From a botanical point of view, the marsh grasses which surround the lake make it one of the most interesting in the region. It is within an area of protected parkland.
